How this is worked out
- Rooms = guests ÷ guests per room (rounded up) × nights × room rate. Food = guests × meals × cost per plate, plus high teas.
- Everything else is what you enter: decor, photos, mehndi, makeup, entertainment, gifts, rituals, outfits, jewellery and travel.
- Each saving idea is worked out on its own: weekday off-season dates (about 20% off rooms), skipping high teas, a shorter menu (about 10% off plates), venue decor (a third off), and a local photographer (a third off, no travel).
- The total is compared with the money you have: within it, up to 20% over, or well over.
Questions people ask
Is a destination wedding cheaper than a city wedding?
Often, if the guest list is smaller. You host fewer people for longer, so rooms and meals dominate. A city wedding with 500 guests can cost more than a 100-guest destination wedding.
When are venues cheapest?
Outside the peak wedding season (roughly November to February) and on weekdays. Monsoon and summer months can be much cheaper in many destinations.
Should we take a loan for the wedding?
Try not to. A personal loan at 12–16% turns a ₹10 lakh overspend into ₹13 lakh or more repaid over the next few years, right when a new couple may want to save for a home.
Does this include the honeymoon?
No. Plan it separately with the short-term goal planner or the trip budget, so it doesn't quietly add to the wedding bill.
